The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex was trading nearly 162 points lower at 1142 hrs on panic selling by investors. The 30-share Sensex, which lost nearly 100 points at the start of the session, was down by 161.94 points, or 0.85 per cent, at 18,836.08 at 1142 hrs, with interest rate-sensitive auto, realty and banking stocks coming under pressure. The broad-based National Stock Exchange Nifty index was also trading down by 62.40 points, or 1.09 per cent, at 5,638.90. Among the Sensex bluechips, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Motors, HDFC Bank and DLF were reeling under pressure.
